The End of the Ocean takes place in two different years - 2019 and 2041. We follow two different main characters as they navigate the effects that climate change has on them. Signe is a seventy year old woman setting sail across the ocean with some very precious cargo. David and Lou are fleeing their drought-stricken French town in search of water and a better life.

Don’t go into this expecting a light, fun read. Maja Lunde does a stupendous job of telling a story of what could happen if we don’t change how we are treating our planet. It’s stark, bleak, but she gives a glimmer of hope that keeps you going through the end of this book. And, the relationship between David and his daughter during the bleak time of uncertainty they go through is darling, and a beautiful demonstration of the love of a parent, and the innocence of a child.

I can recognize an original, interesting, and very relevant story. Sometimes, I truly enjoy them! However, this was not one of those books. Signe's story seemed like it dragged and was confusing to follow. David and Lou's just about broke my heart.
