This is a haunting story, especially because it feels so much like a potential future. This is a story told in alternating perspectives 24 years apart. In 2017 seventy year old Signe takes a treacherous journey as she attempts to stop her homeland from being ruined by progress. In 2041 father David is a refuge with his daughter Lou struggling to make do in a camp with little resources. There is no rain and hasn’t been any for years. Global warming has ravaged Europe and the northern parts have closed their borders as there is not enough for anyone. These two stories intermingle in a surprising way. I truly enjoyed this story but the worst part is that it all felt completely realistic and plausible.
