Told in alternating timelines this is a dystopian novel that addresses the future possibilities caused by climate inaction today.

Signe lives on a boat in present day Norway and struggles with the decisions leaders in her hometown are making about building and the use of natural resources. She fights to make sure they understand the environmental impact their decisions will make in the future and goes on a sailing journey with some precious cargo.

David and his daughter Lou are fleeing southern Europe in year 2041 in the midst of drought and ravaging fires. Their days are marked by thirst and survival. As they trek to the north countries they encounter one of many refugee camps where they hope to meet up with the rest of their family who were separated from them. Can they withstand the harshness of their journey and make it to the land where water flows freely?

This is a gripping story. I was hesitant in the beginning since I generally dislike dystopian novels, but I could not put down this book. I actually preferred following the future storyline to the present day one! I loved Lou's innocence and determination and the relationship with her father. I held my breath during some parts with anticipation of what was to come.
An enthralling read that begs us to open our eyes to how we are treating our planet. Highly recommend!!
