In the novel, The End Of The Ocean, author Maja Lunde paints a stark picture of what our world will look like once it's been ravaged by climate change. It's dangerous, hot, and alarmingly low on water. A father and daughter, David and Lou, recently separated from the rest of their family, must navigate this new world together, dealing as best they can with all the challenges that come with it. As they struggle to survive, they also grapple with their own relationship and how it has changed since losing their loved ones. Interspersed with their story, is the story of a woman, Signe, who about 25 years earlier, saw the signs of climate change and tried to stop it. As a child, she witnessed the dissolution of her parent's marriage, as they ended up on different sides of the climate change fight. Beautifully written, at the heart of this novel are the relationships between the characters. While set against the backdrop of a chaotic and ever changing environment, it's the universality of the relationships that really shines.
