There is more than one story here and I assume they will come together at some point. One woman is mourning the loss of the glacier that was near where she grew up. Her story is part remembering, part action to prevent more ice from being lost.
The other story is a man and his 4 year old child, 20+ years into the future when it appears the earth is in big trouble. He's searching for his wife and infant son who went on ahead to the camps where people go for food, water to wash, etc. but when he and the child arrive, there is no wife and son there to great them.
I'd need to know more, but wheat I read seemed like a story I'd read.
