This is an apocolyptic novel set in the future where most people have died off from the Fly Flu. It follows multiple perspectives. One is a boy who lives with his mother and two other kids in a movie theater. Another is a girl who is setting off in search of another place. The other is a bit spoilery, so I will leave for now. They are on their own paths to find safety from the Fly Flu. The flies themselves have a contagious sickness if you come in contact. The flies can also lift you up and carry you off in swarms.
I think the book in itself is genius the way you look back and everything fits together. However, getting there was hard and tough. It was very confusing at times and very boring. I think the characters were very likeable. The book was just so confusing that I found myself not caring, likeable characters or not. Of course, the confusion has a payoff, but not sure a lot of people will be hooked enough to get it.
