This is my first book by David Arnold and it definitely won't be my last. This book was so good! I love that this book is told from multiple view points from our three main characters: Nico, Kit, and The Deliverer, as they are navigating a post-apocalyptic world that's been overrun by deadly Flu Flies. Nico and her dog, Henry, are searching for a portal from a story from her childhood. Kit is an artist who grew up in the cinema and paints a specific picture everyday and wondering its meaning. The Deliverer spends their time trying to make things right, day after day. Just when you think you know where the story is going, Arnold throws in a new though or idea that adds a new depth to the story. This book is a long one, but if you hang in there, you will uncover a story with so many wonderful layers surrounding themes of survival, love, and storytelling.
