The Electric Kingdom draws you in from the very beginning. Told from three different perspectives, Nico, Kit, and the Deliverer, the story winds between the three characters as they live and survive in a world devastated by the Flies.

Humankind has nearly been wiped out and civilization has been brought to a standstill. With no electricity, those that are left must fend for themselves and tentatively trust others they encounter, either where they have established a home base or during their journey.

I liked how the story was told from different points of view — Nico, an 18 year old, raised alone by her parents, sets out with her dog, Harry, with little knowledge of the outside world except from the stories her dad told her; Kit, a precocious 12 year old, voracious reader, and sometimes know-it-all, tries to act braver than his age; and The Deliverer, a mysterious figure, who has knowledge of this world.

There were a few times I found the story dragging along with unnecessary scenes that added little to the plot. I wished there had been more told from the POV of the Deliverer for the reasoning behind the decisions made by this character.

Overall, this is an enjoyable read and I would recommend it to anyone (young and old ) looking for a book from this genre.
