I'm not particularly fond of YA, or post-apocalyptic/dystopian novels, and that is what this is. However, just because I am not the intended audience does not mean that this is a poorly written book. I think readers who want a YA book with a story similar to The Stand or Station Eleven will REALLY enjoy this. The opening introduces multiple characters with various backgrounds and personalities. It also seem as though the author did a nice job of world building. One element I did enjoy: sprinkles of religious/spiritual elements. I don't have the impression this book is particularly religious in its themes, but there does seem to be a hint of a spiritual or religious symbolism that could be really interesting.
