First off, the cover of this book is amazing. It's what initially drew me to the book when searching through pre-order lists recently. Then I read the description, and being a huge fan of Station Eleven, I was immediately sold. Literally. I pre-ordered the book from Target that minute, a few weeks ago.

Then I noticed it was put up on this site, and luckily caught it just in time to still get a chance to read the first impression. The excerpt starts with two quotes: 1 from Ted Chiang, and 1 from Westworld. I geeked out hard to both. This book may be written particularly for me.

I couldn't put down these 35-ish pages in the excerpt. I love the concept, writing style, and how the book seems to be taking place after the "Fly Flu" has already greatly changed life as we know it on earth (even more than COVID). I am dying to read more! Particularly excited to learn more about Kit and his friends who live in the theater.

And that solar panel house on the mountain. I may be the narrator in that chapter, as this quote is something I could easily hear myself saying: "I have learned to be grateful for repetition. And while summers are hot and winters are long, and while
aloneness is itself a presence in the room, loneliness is nothing but pure absence, a reaching down and hollowing out. I have learned to love myself, my own company. I have learned that you can hate a house only so long as you avoid a fundamental truth: that you are the one who calls it home."

So great so far! Can't wait for more!
