The first couple of chapters lay the ground work for intrigue. Dr. Evelyn Caldwell is being honored at a lavish event, celebrating her success in the field of science. Everyone around her is astonished at what she has achieved, but the questions and compliments only hint at complicated procedures rather than revealing what this success actually entails. Neuropsychological conditioning, grants and publications, a new method named after Caldwell herself, references to hypothalamic nuclei, and accelerated bone growth. All sorts of mysterious details pull the reader into Dr. Caldwell's life.

Her figure seems to still be svelte, her gown lovely, her beautiful necklace had been a gift from Nathan, her partner in the laboratory as well as in marriage. And then, this image of perfection is shattered when Evelyn's mentor asks the one question that seems to ruin the night: Where is Nathan? Evelyn Caldwell's response sounds bitter; Nathan is probably at home with his fiance'.

What is the significance of the book's title? Is Nathan's new wife-to-be the echo? Is Evelyn now an echo of the past? The reader's curiosity is piqued about these personal relationships. Yet there also seems to be a shroud of mystery around Dr. Caldwell's scientific accomplishment. The key word is that one reference to clone. Something must have gone wrong. This book combines mystery with passion and a female protagonist's success. There is promise of an entertaining five-star read which combines Stepford Wives with revenge and competition on the scale of the television series Game of Thrones, minus the dragons and Medieval castles (which, for me, is a good things.)
