I'm not usually one for thrillers, but this one took the cake. This was engaging enough to keep me on my toes, but I never felt it was going too far off the rails in order to keep the suspense up.

Evelyn is such a great main character. I'm not sure if I'd label her as an "Unlikeable Protagonist," but she's definitely not likeable. She's ambitious and vindictive and has no lover for her ex-husband or his new wife. Her attitude and the flashbacks to her past really emphasized her differences with Martine and the whole thesis on cloning and humanity Gailey is presenting.

The science didn't bog down the story and never felt like it was unlikely for this to be set in modern day instead of say, 200 years in the future.

I was engaged enough to continue reading, but I wouldn't say I was reading with bated breath the entire time. It mellows out near the middle and then rockets up the thrills in the last quarter, making for a satisfying conclusion.
