Time Machine vs. Love and Reality

I am a big fan of Diane Chamberlain's books and The Dream Daughter did not disappoint me. Usually I do not read books about time travel but this one worked for me. I listened to The Dream Daughter on audio CD read by Susan Bennett and knew as soon as it began I was hooked. Even as I got to my destinations I found myself sitting in my car wanting to listen to more. It grabbed me from the very beginning and the ending was fabulous.

Carly Sears was a physical therapist working in North Carolina during the 1970's. It was there that she met and was chosen to treat patient Hunter who was there for his broken leg. Hunter and Carly had an immediate connection and Carly believed that Hunter would like her sister Patty. Carly's intuition was right on because the two ended up marrying and having a little baby boy. Carly married her childhood sweetheart, Joe and the four got on splendidly. Joe was in the army and had been sent to Viet Nam. One day Carly got the most devastating news that Joe had died when a bridge exploded. Carly was heartbroken beyond compare. Just as she received this news, Carly discovered that she was pregnant with Joe's baby. The unborn baby gave her something of Joe to hold on to and gave her a reason to try and build a new life. Carly had moved in with Patty and Hunter in the family home on the Outerbanks of North Carolina, when she discovered she was pregnant. During a fetal exam Carly was told that her baby had a heart defect. Carly was hoping that the doctor's diagnosis was wrong but after getting a second opinion the diagnosis was confirmed. There was nothing that could be done for her baby. She was told that it would surely die.

One day Hunter, Carly's brother-in-law and a physicist, suggested a proposed solution to save Carly's baby. Hunter's proposal was something that Carly could not fathom or believe possible. Carly doubted every detail of his solution. Hunter continued each day to convince Carly to trust him and take this leap of faith. Love overtook logic and Carly finally agreed to Hunter's plan. She realized that her love for her unborn child was worth any risk she would have to take.

I absolutely loved The Dream Daughter by Diane Chamberlain. It was one of her best books yet. I highly recommend this book.
