This book blew me away. If you've ever read a Diane Chamberlain book, then you already know how amazing her work is. This one is different than anything she has ever written but in a good way! It still retains the heart and wonderful, realistic characters that her books are known for, but there is an element of surprise that I won't spoil for you. Like many of her other books, there is one foot in the past and one in the present. I love this form of story-telling, where authors connect their characters lives through history. The Vietnam War plays a huge part of this novel, as does fetal surgery. Both were very thoroughly researched and I admit I teared up more than once while reading. If you've never read Diane Chamberlain before, then this is a great place to start, and if you have then you will be really excited by this book.
