"The dream daughter" is a heartbreaking and fantastic story about of Carly. Carly lost her husband on Vietnam's war and is expecting their first child. When she goes to her routine exams, she discovers that her baby has a heart defect and there is nothing she can do in 1970's. Her journey starts when her brother-in-law, Hunter, reveals some truths from his life and offers her a possible solution.

This book is absolutely amazing when describing some deep human feelings such as fear, hopeless and finally a new hope. Diane Chamberlain writes beautifully this story which is moving and has a little of suspense. Also I felt drawn into the characters as well as their emotions. I found interesting the comparison of life between 1970's and 21st century and it made me think about different values in each time period. The nine-months-pregnancy is well portrayed and all the mixed feelings leave us reflecting on the great-mother-love. Finally, I can say that the end was utterly surprising, bittersweet and poignant.
