The Dream Daughter was an interesting and enjoyable novel. I was immediately drawn into the story of Carly, a physical therapist in the 70s who has just started a new job after her husband was killed in Vietnam. Carly is pregnant with their child, but is given devastating news that the baby may not survive.
The rest of the story follows Carly's fight to do anything possible to meet her child, told through different time periods, settings, and alternating between Carly and her brother in law's perspective. The author's depiction of the mother-daughter bond and Carly's fight to save her baby is heartwarming. The Dream Daughter is a positive, hopeful, and uplifting novel that moves quickly, asks interesting questions about how choices affect things, and has a satisfying ending.
