This one was a bit of a slow go at first. The characters (especially Audrey Hepburn) felt a little forced, and not much was happening for quite a while. It seemed like she was thrown in there merely for name recognition and not because the character felt authentic. The focus of the novel is really the main character Sabrina’s former romantic relationship with Tobias and also her relationship with her father. Once all of the kitsch boils away, these are the feelings she explores with her other dinner guests. I was definitely more invested by the end of the book, but I wouldn’t necessarily call it a favorite. I do think Serle is an inventive writer and I would eagerly try another book of hers!
