It's hard to say that I loved this book. I felt uncomfortable for most of the time that I was reading this novella. But, I feel that was the point. It is a story that will stay with me for a very long time.

I had never heard of clipping before I received this book. I knew Daveed Diggs from many repeat listenings of the Hamilton soundtrack, but had never heard of the band before. I also hadn't ever read anything by Rivers Solomon. I am grateful to this book for introducing me to both the band and a new author.

After many listens to the song "The Deep" I was unsure what to expect from the novella. Rivers Solomon took the themes from that song, and created a narrative and characters that will remain with me for a long time. They managed to make me feel uncomfortable, but at the same time recognize that it was due to the fact that I was reading a story that was both beautiful and tragic. I haven't read their other book yet, but it is definitely on my tbr, as will anything they publish in the future.
