I love stories based around water and mermaids, so when I saw this title I knew I had to pick it up! The novella starts off slowly with a description of the main characters feelings and develops into a the memories and emotions of their people’s ancestors. There are also beautiful details about life and communication underwater that I appreciated. The world presented is different than any other underwater world I’ve encountered in literature before.
The main character faces the pain of holding all the grief of the past and the adventure that ensues is grand. While the story of “the grass is greener on the other side” has been told many times before, but this telling was wonderfully unique.
By the end of the story I wanted so badly to know what happened, while also not wanting the story to end. I wish there was more to the story, but everything wrapped up well so I can’t complain too much.
