I read this book on audio and can't imagine that it would have been anywhere near as powerful had I read the words myself holding a book in my hands.
As a white person, I really am thankful that black artists and authors are willing to share their creative works that expose such raw emotions and history of struggle so that people like me can catch a glimpse of the burdens they have been forced to carry. The storytelling of this work was absolutely beautiful, wonderfully written. I wanted to start the book over from the moment I finished it. This is a book I will come back to over and over again. It's a quick read, but I wanted to keep listening because I was so captivated by the story and the journey the main character went on throughout. The weight of the stories of her people that she carried was a beautiful and sobering metaphor that I won't soon forget.
