Okay, so this is a challenging review to write, since this was just not the book for me, but I can still appreciate the power in telling it. I mostly stick to contemporary fiction and mystery/thriller/crime, more realistic, modern-day stories.
"The Deep" is definitely not in a genre that I would reach for - science fiction? fantasy? I'm not entirely sure.

Regardless, I can say that I found the writing a little repetitive and the story drawn out (even though the book itself is less than 200 pages). I could see this as a really strong short story. The plot was intriguing and eye-opening. The concept of the role of memory in a society was told from a unique perspective that I found interesting, but it needed to get to the point faster.
