What to even write about this novella???
I listened to it as an audiobook. Hearing Daveed Diggs' voice had me feeling like I was at family story time. I didn't know what to expect when I first started listening, but I knew it wasn't going to be about Black mermaids when the whole entire premise is about the formation of life springing from the last breaths of death. It's a heavy subject. The lesson of remembering where you've come from in order to know where you are and figuring out where you want to go in life.
This subject is hard-hitting. However, it is told with such eloquence that I feel the lesson more than try to understand it.
I gave it a 3.5/5 stars. This is only because it kind of lost it's momentum towards the last half of the book. My kind started to wonder, but that could also be because I don’t really do audiobooks.
