This was absolutely wonderful and I definitely plan on rereading it to get even more out of it.

Yetu is the type of protagonist you want to root for. All her life since becoming the Historian of her people, holding all memories of her people, the wajinru, she has been overwhelmed by the feelings of such an immense amount of memories. You just want her to get the best for her.

The marketing for this book wasn't very vocal about this part, but this is a very demisexual relationship, as the f/f relationship is between two people who define their attraction as such. Yetu's people are also a very genderfluid race.

As it's a novella, the plot isn't the biggest thing about this. It's the history of the wajinru, the flashbacks to past wajinru, the complex relationship between remembering and forgetting, and the relationships between characters.

If you love sci-fi/fantasy, afrofuturism, or just mermaid stories and haven't picked this up, why haven't you?
