Dealing with intergenerational trauma, the first look is unlike anything I've read before... combining the mythology of mermaids with a dark history that's only hinted at. The main character Yetu comes across as someone who carries a heavy responsibility and heavy suffering as a result - and I hope that there are some good things ahead for the character, in addition to finding more about the history she keeps. The cover highlights the darkness of the story, but also perfectly captures why this is one of my most anticipated books of the year!
