After the breakout success of "An Unkindness of Ghosts" and a number of shorter works for SerialBox and Tor.com (among others), Rivers Solomon could have rested on their laurels—but they didn't. Solomon is back in "The Deep," a novel based upon the afrofuturist song of the same name by the band Clipping (Daveed Diggs, William Hutson, and Jonathan Snipes). They're ready to prove that they can, in fact, add strength upon strength and improve even a very good thing—and if the opening chapters of Solomon's novel are any indication, they offer an immersive, captivating world for readers to get lost in.
