First, I would like to praise the cover! it's pretty and it carries a sentiment of gentleness and calm with my favorite color blue :) The mermaid is so beautiful as well. It all comes together so well.
The premise of the story is very original and heartbreaking at the same time giving me the urgency to want to know what it says. I want to know what kind of legacy the writers had in mind to give all those people who suffered and died unfairly under a cruel hand. I want to know what voice the descendants of those black slaves bring to light. I have recently read Nickle Boys by Colton Whitehead and currently reading The Confessions of Frannie Langton by Sara Colins. Both speak stories of living Blacks who suffered oppression but The Deep speaks of what was and of a freedom not dreamed of but lived. I would really love to read this book!
