The Davenports is an amazing book about black excellence during the time of Jim Crow era laws. It's both witty and fun as it is thoughtful and serious.
I personally enjoyed the setting of the novel, and what makes it very interesting is that we follow 4 young women, as they navigate around the society that, whilst not made for them, they are fighting to make for themselves.

The four characters we are introduced to are Olivia, Helen, Amy-Rose, and Ruby. They all have their own individual circumstances and problems and it was so interesting to read about their lives and how society treated them. The romance for the girls was also very sweet and it was very fun to read about all of their success and fight to get what they want!

This is a great historical romance book, and it's so unique in that it's doesn't shy away from that idea that black people of this era could be successful too. What a great intro for me into historical romance!
