Okay so what happens after aliens invade Earth and those who remain live there peacefully? Apparently they do as regular human kids do which is hang out at clubs, go to high school, and party. That's the basic story here as The Darkest Star follows Evie Dasher accompanying her friend to a club these aliens, the Luxen, frequent. While her friend is off with her love interest, Evie meets Luc who is kind of a d... well, not a nice guy. From that point her whole life is thrown into upheaval. Because she loses her phone at the club, she spends the next three chapters whining about it. I get that she's a teenager, and they're like glued to their phones, but was there really nothing else to say for three chapters? That was my main problem with this book. So. Much. Repetition. How many sharp breaths can one person suck in? And Evie? She is the single most annoying character I've ever read. Because of that it was almost impossible to like her. There was one moment in the book where I felt a small thing for her, and that's why I gave this book two stars instead of one. The story was okay, but I've never rolled my eyes at a writing style more in my life. Let's just say, I won't be continuing this series.
