I have not read JLA's Lux series, so I didn't have any prior knowledge of Luxen and Origin before reading The Darkest Star. I like science fiction a lot and find aliens to be fascinating, and the circumstances presented in The Darkest Star were definitely intriguing. After the Luxen invaded a few years ago, the government has placed restrictions on the survivors and a rift is brewing between Luxen and humanity. After Evie meets a mysterious stranger one night, she finds herself learning much more than she ever expected...

I didn't like this book immediately - I'm tired of unnaturally beautiful characters - but then the storyline went in a direction that I have a weakness for. I enjoyed the way that Evie grew to see the Luxen in a new light. There are things that may have been hinted at that weren't addressed in this book, and many ideas to be explored, from the military and government, to the Arum. It felt like only the beginning, with something major set to happen in the next book - and I am curious enough that I will continue with the series.
