This was a very interesting story. There is another series set in this universe that I had not read first, but I felt like this book gave the right background to standalone. The characters were all a little flat - not emotionless but they felt like caricatures of themselves full of intense crazy emotions. Evie was an ok heroine but she didn’t catch me. And Luc was kind of a jerk and after finishing it he could have done a much better job. The writing was good and I was glued to the pages to what happened next (although it definitely ended practically with the promise of another book). I don’t read a ton of science fiction, but other than the fact that half the characters you meet in this book are aliens (which you will hear about over and over) it didn’t feel much like science fiction. I like the idea of an alien race that is able to adapt to human form that comes to Earth and some tried to live in peace. I did like that this book tackles the concept that you don’t need to fear everyone different and pushing people to separate communities never ends well.
