Although I couldn't remember much about the original series when I began reading this, I found that it was fairly easy to fall back into the world and the story. All the background I needed was provided and I thought that overall this was a well done forage back into the world of The Darkest Minds series, which I also enjoyed reading. I admit it was sad to see that the somewhat happy ending from the last book wasn't the truth of the story afterall, but I though that this created a spin-off in a way that was exciting and not too twisty (by which I mean the plot of this book made sense when comparing it to the original series). Although I read less dystopian fiction nowadays, I enjoyed reading this quite a bit! It was gripping and I loved seeing things from Zu's perspective.
