Disclaimer, I have not read the first books in the darkest minds series so I went into this one blind. That did not sway how much I enjoyed this novel! I didn't feel confused and felt like I was a part of the story from the beginning. I really liked the main character, Zu, and thought there was great character development throughout the book. We had a strong female lead character who faces her own issues such as her PTSD. I thought the ending was okay and am interested to see if there is another book coming out after this to continue on the Darkest Minds series. I thought of this book as another dystopian with teenagers who have to stick together and are essentially powerless but I would recommend this and thoroughly enjoyed it. 4/5
