I read The Darkest Minds series a few years ago and was so excited when I heard there was going to be another book in the series! This book is told from Zu's point of view several years after the events in In The Afterlight. Some of this book is actually about Zu, but I would not say that it is exclusively about Zu. The second half of the book is mainly focused on finding Ruby and bringing the old gang back together. I was happy to see Zu really evolve as a character and how she has grown up. The world the characters live in is really depressing and most of the adults are fairly disappointing (especially the government), but everyone manages to find some sort of hope and the book has a mostly happy ending.
