This was everything I had hoped it would be and more. The Darkest Minds is one of my favorite series and when it came to an ending, it was a very bittersweet ending, however Zu’s story wasn’t finished. I had a feeling that her story was just beginning and I’m glad we finally get to read it.

The Darkest Legacy is nothing short of action, adventure, and heartbreak. It’s everything we’ve come to love about the series and more because this isn’t just an expansion of a world that Braken created, but also an amazing character arc. It was nice to see the crew after five years and although things had ended in a good spot, we get see that not everything is as it seems.

The Darkest Legacy is narrated by Zu. She’s grown so much in the last five years. She’s both the same character that we first fell in love with and not. Her character growth (and arc for that matter) was good but she still has more to learn. I really enjoyed reading her narrative though.

Like I said before, this wasn’t just an expansion of the world that Braken had created. It was more in depth. We get to see where the world is five years later and how it’s still being rebuilt. We see new struggles and a new storyline that will leave you wanting more.

The thing was, this was meant to be a standalone to close up a few loose ends, but I felt like there was so much left unspoken. I still had questions and there are still things that I’m wondering about. Like In the Afterlight, it’s an open ending that leaves you wanting more.

Overall, I enjoyed this just as much if not more that The Darkest Minds. I liked the whole new storyline and I really liked Zu’s narrative. A great read.
