Didn't Work for Me

I love true crime, and I grew up in the seventies. The combination of those two things in this one book seemed like the perfect fit for me.

Unfortunately, nothing about this book worked to keep me engaged.

The story is certainly well researched. The material is all here, and I'm sure many readers will thoroughly enjoy this book.

But I got bored pretty quickly. The writing is extremely detailed, in that way of tedium rather than atmospheric. We're treated to lots of extraneous detail that's irrelevant and/or unnecessary, adding little or nothing to the reading experience.

For the longest time, nothing of interest happened, or at least that's how it felt to me. I started skimming. Zoning out. Skipping ahead.

The writing style and I were simply a bad match. It happens. No disrespect to the author. Ultimately, this book is a DNF (did not finish) for me.
