Ah, the summer between high school and college, it truly is the best summer of all. It is especially glorious when you spend it at your favorite sleep away camp. Sleep away camp is that special place, 8 weeks on the summer, away from the family, out in nature, that children of certain socioeconomic level go to to form the friendships that will carry them throughout their lives.
Goldie, Ava and Imogen met when they were 8 years old, all at camp for the first time. They swore to be 'sisters by choice' and tell each other everything. Ava's father is a big-shot on Wall Street. Imogen is going to become a famous actor. Goldie goes to camp because her parents work there. This year they are going to be counselors instead of campers. It's going to be the best summer ever.
But each girl comes to camp with secrets she hasn't told the other two and it causes tension. Then a local boy is found dead on the camp's property. He used to be Goldie's boyfriend. His death is deemed an accident, but Goldie doesn't think so. She saw him talk to Ava before his accident.
When I started the book, I thought it would be one of those 'young love problems' stories, typical of the age group. It turned out to be so much more. I completely enjoyed the mystery. The friendship between the three girls was pretty fantastic, too. I highly recommend you read this one over a quiet summer weekend.
I received the copy of the book I read for this review from BookishFirst.
