Flew threw this fast-paced read!
Thank you to BookishFirst, Penguin Teen, and Jessica Goodman for the gifted copy in exchange for my honest review. I own both of her previous books but The Counselors is the first I've actually read, and I've definitely been sleeping on her for too long!
Based on the cover and synopsis, I was thinking this would have more of a 90's slasher at sleepaway camp kind of vibe (i.e. Friday the 13th) but I wouldn't say it was quite that dark. Thankfully, though, the pacing is excellent and the story is so well-written I honestly didn't feel let down by the fact that it was not very "slasher-y."
I genuinely could not put this down until I figured out what all the characters' dirty little secrets were. I previously mentioned Goodman did such a good job with pacing but it definitely bears repeating. I was hooked from the very beginning and she didn't let her foot off the gas until the very end.
