Secrets abound in a place you believe to be safe

Goldie, the main character, has captured my attention from the beginning of this book with her initial innocence and naivete about life and how there might be a place where there is no evil. Another aspect of the writing that I have enjoyed is the way the timeline is divided between "Now" and "Then" as a way to show the comparison between the characters. I really want to know what the secrets are that make this camp evil.
