As a lover of this brand of horror story I knew what was coming from a short way into the book, but I was still invested enough in the characters that I had to take the journey with them to the end.

Our main character is suddenly orphaned and taken in by someone her father knew in high school (that she has never met nor heard of before) in order to be a companion t their very sick daughter. The house rules don't start out as anything odd or bizarre; spending time in the company of our sick daughter who cannot speak or move, and stay out of the "west wing" as it is closed off to save on heating and cooling. then it progresses slightly to you will be homeschooled with our daughter, the wi-fi does not work and the only computer you must ask to use and it is in our bedroom...nothing fishy here is there?

This was a great story with some un expected twists and surprises that anyone who is a fan of the genre will enjoy.
