When Margot’s family dies in a car crash leaving her an orphan, she is sent to a home for girls. When a friend of her fathers learns of her situation, he sends for her to come live with his family in their large country estate. Margot is to be the companion to their daughter Agatha, who is nearly catatonic due to a rare disease.

As soon as Margot arrives, she feels out of place at the huge lavish mansion and unaccustomed to the lifestyle. Cut off from the rest of the world at the isolated estate, she befriends Laura, the woman who took her in, and helps her care for her daughter the best she can. But Margot soon discovers Laura is hiding secrets and she, nor the mansion, nor the lifestyle, are completely as they seem.

I was picturing more of a ghost story when I picked this book up, but the creep vibe is there regardless, and I loved the book. I think it might be YA, which I don’t usually read, but I liked it all the same. It was easy to read, not super surprising, not super thought invoking, just pure entertainment and I ate it up.
