I really loved this book- so why not 5 stars? Truth is- I don't have a straightforward answer. I just felt like it was missing something. Perhaps a deeper dive into the paranormal aspect of the plot? The imagery was described beautifully, as was the main character's trauma, so I felt like the plot twist took away from those elements by feeling a bit "Lifetime movie." I felt the same way when reading The Woman in the Window. That being said- one of the end scenes with the main character's mother's spirit was beautiful. For the most part (minus the romantic storyline)- the book did not feel YA. It was fairly sophisticated and the gothic setting was entrancing. Ok one more flaw in the book- the brother! How is he so dense to not know anything or have any suspicions?! Again- just a little annoying but did not take away from my enjoyment while reading. If you enjoy gothic, paranormal mixed with some family DRAMA- then do not pass on this one. It was a quick and easy ready, and I am very appreciative to have gotten the chance to add it to my bookshelf!
