This book had all the key elements to a good horror. An orphan with a tragic past. The orphan then gets adopted by a wealthy family who lives in a mansion in middle of nowhere. There is no cell phone service or anyway to contact anyone. The wealthy family has a mysterious back story and an ill child. This mansion has to many rooms and many locked doors. For me this is what truly drew me into this story. I just love the setting and the backstory for each character. It just sets the mood so well for a good horror.

Many mysterious things happen in the book, things that seem to have no explanation. Sad to say I did guess basically why all these things were happening but weirdly it didn’t take away from the enjoyment of the book. I did wish it was a little bit harder to guess but I still thoroughly enjoyed it. And even though this book is a little creepy at some points it not a full-blown horror. It’s not the type of story where after you read it you lock your doors, close you blinds, and your heart beats with every creak of a noise. I could sleep peacefully after reading this book.

I also love how the author ties in the beginning of the story to the end of the story. The whole book flows very nicely. The writing style is easy to follow and very engaging. I wish I could find more books like this. I also think that the cover is very clever after reading this book. I didn’t get exactly how it specifically tied into this book besides that eating nails is a little, okay a lot, weird but after reading it I must hand it to the author, this cover is more than perfect. This is difficult for me to do with a lot of books but this one is definitely a book I would recommend.
