Margot is the only survivor of a car accident that killed her whole family. A heavy beginning, indeed. She goes to stay with a friend’s family, but her night terrors keep them up at night. She goes to a home for girls, when one day a family comes to adopt her, as a favor, because Margot’s father saved her adopted father’s life in law school.
Margot is transported to a huge mansion in the middle of nowhere, where she meets her adoptive mother Laura, and Agatha, her 16 year old new sister. Agatha, however, is catatonic, and it is soon revealed that Margot is to be Agatha’s companion, with the hopes that Agatha will overcome her condition with the influence of a girl her own age. One would think that Margot’s life is on the come up...but the nightmare is just beginning.
I couldn’t put this book down. I needed to find out what was happening, and it’s so well written that I had a suspicion, but could not confirm until the end. Is this creepy, half used mansion haunted? Why are so many rooms locked? Is Agatha sick? Insane? All will be revealed. Pick this one up for an end of summer/pre Halloween scare!
