I had not read anything about this author and I really liked it. I recommend the novel, it is sweet, a little sad and very tender. Well written and I will buy more from this author. this is such an important topic and on that shutters are heart every time we read about this moment in time. This time, the story is set in the post World War II Italy that is devastated and trying to recover from this impact.
little children find themselves without families they can return to or surrounded by pretty devastated and poor family members that can no longer provide for them. so they end up on a train northbound to be adopted by new families.

I was laughing at the occurrences of children and at the same time tears are shed by the emotions it transmits. Unforgettable. Struggles and sacrifices from biological and adoptive mothers doing their best to provide a better life for their children.
