I enjoyed The Children's Train. It was interesting to find out more about Italy-how impoverished some parts of Italy were after the war, and some of the customs and food that were mentioned. In the beginning I could tell it was translated into English but as the story went on I got so lost in it I didn’t notice. This was something I had no idea had occurred and I was fascinated to read about.

Seven year old Amerigo is narrating his story in 1946 Naples, Italy and he is growing up in conditions in which there is no money, no food, no work, and no decent clothes. Amerigo doesn't even have shoes! He is transported up to Northern Italy to live with an adopted family for the winter. The family Amerigo lives with gives him clothes and food and, more importantly, a family to belong to, and love and affection. When he is supposed to go back to Naples it is really difficult. I highly recommend reading Amerigo's story!
