I instantly felt for the boy, the mother to me seemed cold-hearted and very aloof. It seemed to me she either didn't care about him or she was trying very hard to distance herself from him to avoid the pain she was sure to feel by giving him away. This book is very interesting because it talks about a piece of history that we did not learn about in school. History that probably not very many people are aware of.
