While I know this is based on something that really happened, I struggle with why it would have happened. Why would you temporarily send your child away to a better life and then have them come back to poverty and hunger when you've given them a taste of something better? Maybe the book will address that, in the meantime, it is definitely the basis for an intriguing story.
