As soon as I read the synopsis for The Cherry Robbers, I knew it was (to some degree) inspired by the mystery and history of Sarah Winchester. I'm not saying that this as the only influence, especially since the author's note identifies this as well as other influences. Sarai Walker did a good job of creating this setting based on a family whose wealth came from gum making and has mystery surrounding the death of 5 of the 6 daughters. I liked how distinct the personalities were illustrated for each other 6 daughters as well as the parents and the women who work within the home. This is definitely a feminist book and doesn't hide its opinions regarding historical expectations for women to set their life goal as marrying young and having children. This is depicted multiple times throughout the book as well as multiple instances I'd men being dismissive of the concerns of women, exaggerating how women handle things or their ability to handle things. Overall, I liked this story and would recommend it to others.
