I was so excited to receive a copy of the Cherry Robbers after reading the preview, and the full book did not disappoint! The cover is eye catching. Sarai Walker’s writing is full of vivid imagery and excellent world building, and the plot is fast paced through the end. I was expecting more of the narrative to take place in the present but really enjoyed seeing the entire story of the Chapel sisters laid out before jumping back to present and understanding the evolution of Sylvia after spending time with Iris as a child and young adult. The book does not over explain it’s central mystery, which is a smart choice. I did not love Walker’s Dietland but this book is much more subtle and lovely while still evoking the same misogynistic horror (potentially in an even creepier way). I would recommend the Cherry Robbers to anyone who enjoys mysteries or Jeffrey Eugenides’ The Virgin Suicides.
