I'm not the direct target audience for this book as I'm not out actively trying to sell things I've written, but I do on occasion write freelance articles for a local woman's magazine where I also work when another writer isn't available. I found the advice in the book to be helpful and well written for the target reader who is looking to get published.

The first chapter contains a lot of helpful advice on what to write and how to write it. I found this advice to be spot on and it has helped to improve my own writing. Shapiro also includes a variety of examples at the end of each chapter including published articles written by herself as well as her students which were immensely helpful in illustrating her points.

As someone who works at a local magazine, I found the additional chapters on what to do if you're rejected, what to do after you've submitted a piece and what to do after you're published to be sound, helpful advice as well. Overall, I think this is a great resource for someone looking to write and sell nonfiction editorial pieces.
